LL-37 is the only known human cathelicidin-derived antimicrobial peptide, generated through proteolytic cleavage of the precursor protein hCAP-18. It is an endogenous, cationic, amphipathic peptide that plays a central role in innate immune defense, epithelial integrity, and host–pathogen interactions.
